The infamous Fan Dance is a test march carried out during both Special Forces (SAS/SBS) Selection and Pathfinder Selection. It takes place over the highest point in the Brecon Beacons, Pen Y Fan, hence the name. Candidates tab over the Fan carrying a weighted bergen to a turn around point and then back over the ground they have already covered, back to the start point. This is an incredibly tough challenge that has stood the test of time, and is very popular with those who wish to push themselves to their limits.

P Company Trilogy
Pegasus Company (also known as P Company) is the selection course for the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces, and is widely acknowledged as the toughest selection course outside of UK Special Forces.
This route was the second day of the Brecon Phase of P Company, known as Exercise Steel Bayonet, in the late Eighties and early Nineties, before the course moved to Yorkshire. It was designed to push recruits to their limits in some very challenging terrain, taking on two of the highest points of the Brecon Beacons and covering 24 kilometres.
There are three aspects to this event, hence ‘Trilogy’.
Firstly, this challenging route starts from the lesser trodden approach of the north side of Pen Y Fan, the highest point in the Brecon Beacons, then down to Pont Ar Daf car park. After heading south you will then climb Fan Fawr, before finally pushing yourself along 10km of country lanes back to the start point at Cwm Gwdi.
You can choose to complete this event either load bearing, i.e. carrying a weighted 35lb bergen (plus food and water), or as a runner carrying the bare essentials.
